Hello WCU Faculty and Staff!
The Citizenship & Civility steering committee (made up of WCU faculty, staff, and students) has hosted this site for Paul Loeb Assignments
Paul Loeb (see this link for a recent article written with Alexander Astin and Parker Palmer). Here is the link to the video of Loeb’s Lecture.
In order to make it easier for faculty and staff to integrate this once in a lifetime educational opportunity into their curriculum, we (C&C and the Paul Loeb Sub-Committee) have come up with two paths to do so. Please click on either of the links below to see the assignment options.
1.) Additional Credit Based Assignment (e.g., a great way to integrate additional credit in an educative way)
2.) For Credit Based Assignment – Integrated (e.g., a great way to integrate a more intensive/extensive ‘for credit’ assignment into your curriculum)
Instructional Objectives of For Credit Based Assignment:
Through these assignments, students will be able to:
- Recognize and describe what community engagement means (to them) and determine one step that can be taken to implement this meaning.
- Identify, explain, and give an example of the value and process of reflection involved in community engagement.
- Define Loeb’s “Perfect Standard” premise and compare (or) contrast this with their personal perspective and beliefs of Loeb’s premise.
